Welcome to the 5-part series on our Brain.

Our brain is an amazing thing and….it literally IS our health. With so much in the news lately about the studies having been completed I felt compelled to share info on ours.

For eons it’s been thought that the reason women tend to fall prey to Cognitive issues (Parkinsons, dementia, Alzheimer’s etc) is because we live longer than men.

Recent research has emerged that points in another direction: Estrogen. Or lack there-of as we age/ enter the Menopause era.

Don’t get me wrong; because you are going to be in, are in or are past Menopause - does NOT mean you are going to get any of the above. What it DOES do however is this gives us information; power as it were…..to do all you can for the health of you, your brain and body TODAY as well as for the future.

This has LONG been a message of mine; I have epilepsy…so researching the brain over the decades (you should see all of my brain books in my office) has been a big part of what I do.

Knowing that all messages in our body stem from the brain…(hormones being the “messengers” and….symptoms then occuring or not), it only makes sense then that our health is affected when the brain is affected by changes in estrogen.

Keep in mind the good stuff: research shows that women over 40 often excel in emotional intelligence, decision-making, and verbal ability; even as some processing speed may change. We need to keep this going; keep the brain strong and not forget about it when trying to live a healthy lifestyle. At the end of the day; a fabulous body, happy life is key…..the start of all of that? The HEALTH of your BRAIN.

It’s one thing to wonder how to beat the symptoms of “menopause”. This isn’t clear; makes it seem very daunting. So when instead you can distill it down to “what can I (or what do I need to) do for my brain” - gives you something far more tangible to sink your teeth into. From sleep to stress, strength to connection and nourishment….working on the different aspects of your life will be key at this time if it’s not been totally focussed on before.

NOW more than ever; THIS is your chance - maybe the last chance - to really get your health in check and focus on you.
