Meet the Stress Hormones

Coach’s Note:
Lately I’ve been having so many conversations with women who say the same thing:
“I don’t understand why stress feels so much harder now.”
They’re doing everything they used to do to manage stress — pushing through, staying productive, keeping everyone else supported — but their bodies are responding differently.
The missing piece is often understanding what’s happening inside the body.
So this week, I want to introduce you to a few important players. Let’s meet your stress hormones.
Meet the Stress Hormones
Most women think stress is just about being busy.
But inside your body, something much more interesting is happening. Stress is actually a chemical conversation driven by hormones.
When something feels stressful — deadlines, poor sleep, caring for others, worrying about health, even scrolling the news — your body releases a group of hormones designed to help you respond quickly.
These are your stress hormones.
The two main ones are cortisol and adrenaline.
They are not bad. They are actually incredibly helpful. Cortisol helps regulate energy, blood pressure, and inflammation.
Adrenaline gives you quick energy and alertness.
The problem today isn’t that we have stress hormones.
It’s that they rarely get the signal that the stressful moment is over.
Your nervous system was designed for short bursts of stress followed by recovery.
But modern life often keeps the signal stuck in the “on” position. When stress hormones stay elevated for too long, women often notice things like:
• Trouble sleeping
• Feeling wired but exhausted
• Increased belly fat
• Brain fog
• Irritability
• Afternoon crashes
Your body isn’t failing you. It’s trying to protect you.
The work now isn’t pushing harder. It’s helping your nervous system remember how to come back down.
Once today, try this simple reset.
Step outside or stand near a window.
Take five slow breaths.
Let your shoulders drop.
Let your jaw unclench.
Then say quietly to yourself:
“I am safe right now.”
It may sound simple, but this actually signals your nervous system to begin lowering stress chemistry. Small pauses like this teach your body that stress can rise… and it can also fall.

If you’re noticing that stress feels different in this season of life, you’re not alone.
Inside my Coach Carolyn Wellness Membership, we focus on helping women reset their nervous system, rebuild strength, and support their bodies through midlife and beyond.
Because wellness now isn’t about pushing harder.
It’s about learning how to Reset • Regulate • Rise.
If you’d like to experience this work in person, join my upcoming Signature Group Program - soon to open.
